Discussion

The following alternatives were offered at the November 3, 2016, work session for the Board's consideration.  Please note that Board members are under no obligation to approve these alternatives:

Regarding the superintendent’s recommendations for the Walter Johnson Cluster, the Board has asked that a preliminary growth management study be done for elementary schools this year and that various options for potential sites be presented to the Board based on multiple scenarios.  Please note that Dr. Smith added that a preliminary growth management study for middle schools in the Walter Johnson Cluster would be conducted as well.

Board members asked that after the growth management study is completed, an elementary school site selection be conducted for the next full CIP year.

The Board asked that $150,000 be added to the CIP for a feasibility study to be done for reopening Woodward High School.

When convening the roundtable discussion involving representatives from Downcounty Consortium high schools and Walter Johnson High School, Board members asked that representatives from Whitman High School and Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School be included in the discussion and consider offering relief to these over-enrolled schools with the opening of Woodward High School.
